The Music Only
For those of you readers who only want the goods on the bands and clubs, here are links to some great acts i saw this month, excerpts from previous blogs, and some recent bits of musical bliss...
I hear it was once the "place to be" in L.A., but today it resembles the last place on earth I want to hang. Hollywood is dirty. Filthy in fact, and littered with the sad and sorry never-were's begging for your money and calling it busking as they sit in their belongings screeching out for a "spare dollar" - a crack-head on every corner doing the fancy-dance that comes with excessive use of any mind-freaking substance. There is a stench to the place that takes a hot shower to rid yourself of the memory... BUT the fabulous clubs where Live music plays nightly is THE reason to go to Hollywood for this LIVE music aficionado.
The Mint: small room - really cool. The Hellen Back Quartet (below); The Dallies; Relentless (Ben Harper's L.A. outfit)
The Unknown Theatre: Open theatre stage with ok sound. I look forward to coming back when they get the LIVE sound right for bands. Scott Goldman; The Karabal Nightlife; Toy Robot (below);
Molly Malone's: Hollywood version of a Rough 'n tumble with great sound. Fun room. The Kings Royal
The Troubadour: Good room. Best live sound I heard in Hollywood. Sex Cobra; Ayn Mor; Army of Kings; Tonight She'll Love; The Leather Souls; Anna Vexa
The House Of Blues (Sunset Strip) - in the Foundation Room - Peter Goetz (below)
I got my very own LIVE show from Peter, in Venice, the night before the Sunset Strip show. Sweet as honey, this boy!
The next few blogs contain reviews from shows at clubs in L.A. outside of Hollywood - venues with great acts...
